What Travelling Has Taught Me

Travel the un-travelled.

My greatest memories are off the beaten paths of Vietnam, cycling through parks in Ireland and exploring winding streets in Florence.. don’t just do the touristic things… get lost! You will NEVER regret doing something that creates a memory… good or bad! Just go out there and walk till you cant anymore!

Be yourself

I think we all get trapped pretending to be someone we’re not.. its human nature to want to fit in. Group tours have taught me to be myself and people will respect that- even if they don’t like you! You can spend hours of your time trying to convince people your cool- for what? you might miss out on something while your trying.. plus you may never see them again! Travel is a time to be dorky, get your history hat on!

Always have a camera

I have witnessed so many beautiful things, but only recently starting photographing them! HOW I REGRET IT!! get a waterproof, shockproof camera- these little babies will do you well on your travels!

Take it all in- with huge gulps!

Just let go, let it all in and don’t say no to anything.. whether it be tasting local dishes, riding a motorbike or skinny dipping- you only live once right?

Never give up on your dreams

You will get lost, you will want to cry, you will have somebody yell at you in a foreign language… but don’t be disheartened. It is a part of a learning curve and will make you a better person- don’t give up on your travel dreams!

Be prepared

Don’t leave yourself with no time… especially for flights! Your in a foreign city and you never know how long traffic will take.. always give yourself spare time!

It is okay to relax!

Sometimes, the best part of a holiday is sleeping in, eating lunch in bed and watching a good movie. You don’t always have to be out on the road or hiking mountains. Sometimes its nice to relax- you won’t get to at home!

  1. I love to travel and I agree, some of my best memories were me just wandering around lost off the beaten path. I also agree about relaxing at times. Once after 6 weeks of non-stop traveling I honestly took a full day and slept and lounged in Rome. I needed to reboot but I loved being off schedule and wandering around finding food once I recovered.
