Travel Faux Pas #87

Missed a flight? You could get another for free! Many people don’t realise this but consumer protection actually dictated that airlines must put you onto another flight if circumstances happen that cannot be controlled. This is called the ‘Flat Tire Rule’. The term refers to the idea that if you are in a state of emergency or mishap that prevents you from arriving at the gate on-time, the airline will re-issue a boarding pass for the next flight to your destination at no charge, as long as you arrive WITHIN 2 hours and have ‘proof’. So get a written letter that states why you are late by somebody of authority (if possible) or even a photo of what happened. Please note, this is harder to get away with for international flights as there is such a large lee-way for check in, but you might as well try- it could save thousands.
