It is not every day that you get to share a hotel with celebrities and Royalty. The Hotel Adlon has a reputation for excellence and lives up to every expectation.
Located in the beating heart of Berlin, overlooking the Brandenburg Gate, one of the most famous monuments in Germany, the Adlon is pure luxury and elegance.
The Low Down
Kempinski Hoteliers are renowned worldwide for their luxury five star accommodation and outstanding service, but experiencing this first hand is something that should be on every traveller’s bucket list. The moment you arrive you are greeted with warmth. The decadent reception areas leave you beaming and the uniformed concierge staff are all ready to help you in any way you desire. This is what hoteliers should dream of providing, world class excellence.
One of the biggest hotels in Europe, with 304 rooms and 78 suites, the Adlon has a presence from the moment you arrive. Not only is the hotel itself beautiful, it’s location is the best in Berlin, so I was beyond excited when I was led to my Junior suite overlooking (and I swear it is) the best view in town. There stood the epic Brandenburg Gate in perfect view with the bustle of tourists and buskers below.
Fill up each morning before you explore on the huge buffet breakfast, complete with international cuisine, sparkling wines and the best omelette in town. Being gluten intolerant can be difficult, however the staff were always accommodating in providing me with a basket of gluten free loaves each day, another small touch that adds to the unparalleled service.
The location alone sets the Adlon apart, as every activity and sight is so close, you are simply spoilt for choice. The Tiergarten- the third largest city park in the world, lays adjacent to the hotel and is perfect for lazy afternoon strolls, bike riding and picnicking.
The Holocaust Memorial, Museum Island and Checkpoint Charlie are all within walking distance, although hiring a bike is highly recommended to see it all with ease. The Adlon has private bike hire that can be arranged for guests and the concierge team is always willing to fill you in on the easiest and best ways around town.
The final experience that every Berlin tourist should add to their to-do list the Resense Spa by Adlon. I was lucky enough to be treated to a HydraFacial (an aqua suction method to enhance skin rejuvenation and tone, perfect after all the travel!) and Aroma Oil Massage- which not only left me feeling fresh and clear minded, but incredibly relaxed.
The spa itself is a whole other world, entering into the crisp alabaster welcome area- you are treated like a god with slippers, tea and an array of readings. I was introduced to my hostess, led through to the treatment room and had all the time in the world to make myself comfortable. The whole experience is decadent, the treatments were perfectly timed, with each step explained as you go. It is the ultimate escape from the realities of city living and the splurge is worth every penny.
Staying in the Junior Suite overlooking Brandenburg gate is an unforgettable luxury. The furnishings and décor is elegant, yet modern. The bathrooms are perfect for two, with his and hers sinks, huge bathtub overlooking the whole suite (and view!) and every amenity you can desire. The Adlon sets itself apart through the minor details including the decadent creams and washes provided, the aromatic bath salts and the lavish robes.
The bed itself is pure comfort, you will find yourself sleeping in each morning, which is not a worry as breakfast is available all the way through until 11am. This is further helped with the sound proof rooms and blackout curtains, providing the ultimate sleeping space. The Adlon is all about providing comfort and care for it’s guests and this is very evident in the way they ensure all your personal belongings are kept safe.
