Review: The Acanto Hotel, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

The Acanto Hotel & Condominiums are a great family-friendly option for those looking to self-cater in Playa Del Carmen.

The rustic and romantic complex is situated in what I would say is my favourite part of town, in the center of 5th Avenue, making the Acanto Hotel a great choice for travellers.

The Low Down

Located on the side street, 16 North, The Acanto is minutes from large shopping hubs including Sephora, H&M, Victoria’s Secret and many more premium brands.

The concept of the hotel is to accommodate families and couples who want a fully-equipped suite, including kitchen and lounge area. The hotel provides a safe and welcoming place to being your Mexico experience, with the ability to save money on big expenses such as dining out.

The Experience

Upon check in, in which I was very early for, I was able to leave my bags with the friendly receptionist who gave me a privilege card to use at neighbouring restaurants and beach clubs. She told me about the Kool Beach Club in which for just $250 Pesos, you could get a lounge, drink and small side dish (I opted for guacamole and tortilla chips of course!).
It was a nice way to use the hours before my room was ready to see a little of Playa Del Carmen beach area and not spend a bomb.

5th Avenue is the main avenue in Playa Del Carmen. The strip is bursting at the seams with bars, restaurants, clubs and shopping. The hotel is located right in the middle of this, so you don’t have to worry about paying for taxis to and from as walking is a breeze!

Breakfast is a very simple continental spread with fresh fruit, pastries and cereals. Don’t expect an overly indulgent buffet, as mentioned before, this hotel is more for those looking to self cater and the light breakfast is just an added bonus.

The small communal rooftop area has a great view of the beach below, but also includes BBQ for those looking to have a cook up before a night out on the town. The facility includes a cute little dip pool with lounges, and an array of lotions, tanning creams and oils so you don’t need to worry about getting burnt.

The Rooms

Each Villa is located around the central courtyard, with a Tuscan feel to the decor. My room was enormous for just one person, but would be ideal for a couple or family with small children. The large king bed was very comfortable, with light bedding over a thick duvet, which suited the heat outside. The connecting lounge was also well styled and comfortable, a great addition for those who like having space to sprawl

The bathroom is simple yet elegant, with the standard amenities, however the shower pressure could be improved.

The kitchen area was the biggest draw card, equipped with microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee machine, fridge-freezer and all utensils. It was great to be able to buy some snack and keep them cold before heading out on an excursions. For those like me who suffer allergies, it is also a bonus to have an area to prep some meals to bring out with you or dine in.

I was welcomed a guest at the Acanto Suites & Condominiums, however all opinions, as always, are true to my own.
