Playa Del Carmen is the Yucatan Peninsula’s premier beach destination, full of ocean front beach clubs, restaurants and palm-lined walkways. There, among the beauty of it all, you will find The Lat20 Hotel.
After a long 10 hour flight from London to Cancun, with another hour journey to Playa, it was a delight to step foot in the newly opened, super-modern Lat20 Hotel.
Just from the entrance alone, I knew I had made the right choice- with huge open ceilings and spotless marble façade, it was clear that this hotel was as sophisticated as I had hoped.
The Low Down
The Lat20 was newly opened in September 2015, which you can see sets it aside from the many neighbouring properties. The hotel is incredibly modern and well kept, with a delicious fruity scent wafting through the hallways.
The Lat20 is an adults-only and all-inclusive resort. Boasting 4 restaurants, a rooftop pool and bar, unlimited (and included!) room service and top location of the 5th Avenue/Calle 32.
This was my first all-inclusive experience and I never thought I would utilise this as much as I did. Ordering à la carte meals at any time of day you desire, sipping on the many cocktail varieties the mixologists can whip up and of course, breakfast in bed.
With only 60 rooms and suites, the hotel is boutique yet vast, with lots of fantastic decor to keep your eyes excited. My favourite area, the rooftop, is so beautiful and thriving with energy- it will suck you in and make you never want to leave!
The staff were indeed the highlight of the Lat20 experience. The reception staff (in particular the bubbly concierge Gabby) were always beaming and ready to help with any questions you may have. I watched as they greeted each and every guest with the same enthusiasm as the next- a rare trait to have after a long day. Don’t forget to meet the 5 turtles in the reception pond- they are always willing to smile for your camera!
After checking into my beautiful deluxe king room, I headed straight for the pool. Playa Del Carmen ranges in temperature from about 20-35 degrees Celsius, but it is usually pretty hot and sticky. Feeling the humidity, a nice dip in the cool water sounded great to me.
I decided to dine up in the pool area first, tasting the Mexican-inspired menu. Guacamole and salsa to start and delicious chicken nachos to finish- perfection!
The rooftop area is, as I mentioned, is very enticing. The pool is the central feature, with tropical themed decor surrounding it. One thing that stood out is there is an abundance of lounges for the 60 rooms, meaning you never have to worry about not having a seat! You are almost guaranteed to have your own lay low or cabana waiting for you.
5th Avenue is the main strip in Playa Del Carmen. The avenue is absolutely packed with bars, restaurants, clubs and shopping. The hotel is located on the furthest and more secluded end of the avenue from the main resort and bus ports- which is actually a blessing. The shops are a little less expensive and the beach is much nicer at this end!
The beach itself is less than a 5 minute walk straight up the road, and the girls at reception are always happy to recommend a great beach club to indulge in.
The Lat20 is new to the area, so ensure you bring with you the hotels business card or just remember which street number (36) it is off 5th Avenue, in case you get lost as taxi drivers cannot remember all 10,000 hotel names!
As part of the Live Aqua group, you are certain to receive world class service. Anything you need or feel to mention will be well looked after and you can expect 100% professionalism.
My favourite restaurant to taste your way through was the Sushi & Tapas bar located on the rooftop. I am a sushi addict, so you can trust me when I say the vegetarian special roll was to die for!
HOT TIP: If you can, wake up for sunrise and head up to the rooftop. You will be the only one up there and can witness the sun light up the whole sky- it is incredible!
Each of the rooms are immaculate. The tropical-yet-modern theme is drawn into the suites, with wooden accents throughout. The small balcony helped open the room up and roof-to-floor windows lit up the whole area.
The bathrooms are enormous, with waterfall shower, vanity and all the amenities you would expect from a luxury stay.
The large flat screen TV and entertainment system has both English and Spanish channels, so no need to worry too much about not being able to understand everything! The room also includes an Ipod dock for those looking to get ready post-siesta with a some great tunes.
Every evening at around 7pm you can expect a turn down service, complete with chocolate. These little perks are what make an hotel experience truly memorable and you can feel the difference.
Oh and did I mention the mini-bar is also ALL INCLUSIVE?
Stay Here If:
You want a prime location, food and service for a one-off cost.
All-inclusive resorts are the way to go in Mexico, as you really do utilise the services and dining. I loved that the Lat20 was one of the newest facilities, as it stood out as you walked through the area and being smack bang in the action was great.
Note: This is NOT a family resort, it is strictly adults-only and a nice break from screaming kids splashing around in the pool when you want to relax.

I was welcomed a guest at the Lat20 Hotel, however all opinions, as always, are true to my own. I would personally like to thank all of the staff for their absolute care and attention during my four night stay at the Lat20.
