To be sure to be sure! Ireland is my second home- literally- I am half Irish! I started my adventures in Ireland from a very young age, living there for a year at 4, then again at 18! To this day, my favourite Irish trip has to be Galway. The music, the food and the groovy vibe through the cobbled streets will forever stick in my mind.
My best friend Amy and I decided to take a break from busy Dublin and head west to Galway for the weekend. Catching the Greyhound bus from Phoenix Park Station, we arrived in the tiny town, headed to the tourist information center and booked ourselves onto a bus tour to the Cliffs of Moher. With no accommodation or dinner plans, we figured we would just go with the flow.. and boy am I happy we did!
Arriving at the Cliffs, we took a tour of the ancient bear caves, dressed as koala bears. Don’t ask me why- we thought we were funny…
The adventure didn’t stop there, with a long hike around the cliffs, taking in the sheer drops and crashing waves of the Irish coast. This place is breathtaking and any Irish roamer needs to experience the natural beauty of the Cliffs of Moher.
Next stop we made our way through ancient castle ruins of Burren, bays and vast green fields to witness some of the most beautiful ruins in the world.
After a long day of exploring, it was time to hit the pubs, grab a hearty meal and experience Galway as any girl should! Crazy buskers, delicious Beef and Guinness pies and a few ciders later we were ready to find some accommodation- checking into the dodgiest backpackers in town- we didn’t even care! Dropping our night bags off, we headed back out to further roam Galway. Walking through the strong winds, freezing our bums off with the biggest smiles in the world- we felt right at home. Perching ourselves on a pier and taking it all in- Galway was just beautiful. We opted to explore on our own- however Galway tourism offers multiple tours, including pub crawls, walking tours and dining experiences. I suggest if you have the time you check these out as we were disappointed we didn’t!
Galway is only a 2 hour bus/train ride from Dublin- so if you have a spare day and want a great adventure, then this place is for you!
