How to Entertain Yourself on a Long-Haul Flight

So as far as I know, NOBODY loves to fly for hours on end, it is uncomfortable, boring and sometimes scary. The good news- there are ways to keep yourself entertained!

First of all: Get comfy. I am the weirdest sleeper on earth. I can’t sleep upright and I need my feet elevated. For me, this is my first step to entertaining myself and a happy flight. Make sure you stay aware of your surroundings, watch for oncoming food carts and the person next to you, but it is a long way and comfort is a must. Bring along a pillow, blanket or large jumper that will cover your whole body (sarongs/large scarves are a great option too!). Even if sleeping a portion of the flight is out of the question- at least you are cozy!

Pick a playlist. I highly recommend having several playlists of a variety of music. I have a relaxing list, a dance mix, a party mix and a Bob Marley mix (my favourite.) Why? You never know how you’re going to feel on the flight (sometimes I have randomly felt like listening to heavy metal which I hate!) and music will make your mind go elsewhere than that retched plane!

Be prepared with paper and pens. This is always a good idea, a spare notebook and a few pens will have you wasting 2 hours playing tic tac to, writing notes about sights you want to see, draft blogs (like me!) or anything that makes you think! The best way to stay entertained is to keep busy so actually setting yourself a task is ideal. For example, I make sure I write several blogs in one hit!

Movie time! I love movies and 2 hours will pass so fast!

Get technical! I don’t usually recommend having a lot of technology on board- it gets in the way and can annoy people beside you- but pick one item of your choice (plus Ipod). I usually opt for my Ipad as I can type on it and look at pics, but a laptop, kindle or tablet is ideal. Not only can you fill it with games and movies (if the ones on board are useless!) but you can use it as your notebook and pen! Just make sure you are FULLY charged and bring a portable charging device such as these!

Do something you love. Confucius said “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” … 100% true. By having an enjoyable job, hobby or activity on board, your mind will be at ease, you will feel more relaxed and you will get a lot done! For me it is blogging and editing pictures, for you it may be sorting songs, writing poems or drawing. Whatever it may be, you will feel good and know that you’ve made an impact on your workload or life!

Sleep. Yep- for me this is entertaining!
