Heading to the South West of Australia has long been a favourite escape of mine. I always feels as though the region, especially that of Yallingup and Margaret River, are so incredibly special and underestimated. It is here that my best friend Anya and I decided to spend a girly weekend away at the enchanting Empire Retreat Yallingup.
Located about three hours south of Perth city, The Empire Retreat Yallingup sits on one of the most popular roads in the West. Caves Road, known for its bounty of world-acclaimed vineyards is the perfect location for a retreat.
The villa-style accommodation is decked out head to toe with their own brand of interior décor, Empire Homewares. The style is beachy-eclectic and fresh, a tough style to master but they get it just right. The vibe throughout the whole retreat is relaxed, crisp and nature-inspired, perfectly fitting to this amazing part of Australia.
Anya and I rolled up to the long, winding driveway with no expectations, but were simply blown away. This is the perfect place to escape. We walked down the wooden, Balinese style walkway to our villa, number 4. The enticing smell of fresh linen, enormous open bathroom area and view over the Karri and Eucalypt trees created an instant feeling of liberation.
The rooms offer a great little balcony and outdoor shower area that is perfect to sip on some local wine and chat the night away. Don’t forget to try ‘Margaret River Dairy Company’ cheese (the smoked one is heaven) and enjoy the incredible sunset that follows.
Waking up bright and early (trust me, your sleep will be unmatched, these beds are insane!), we made our way to the shared the dining area for all nine rooms. The bright and airy room is quaint yet has an immense spread of local gourmet and fresh items, such as poached eggs, yogurt and cheeses. Fill up your tummy and finish with a coffee on the swings overlooking the paddocks below. Heaven!
Something I really appreciated so much (especially being Aussie) is all the local produce and products that the Empire stocks. I love to see hotels using regional amenities, especially in such a saturated market.
The best thing about Yallingup is it’s beaches. A retreat in the South-West would not be complete without a beach picnic and dip in some of the clearest waters on earth. I suggest heading to Canal Rocks or Injidup Beach for a sweeping vista of clear blue skies. Or for a more secluded and beautiful (insta-worthy) beach experience, head straight for Injidup Rocks on Wyadup Road.
After a long day art the beach, there is no better way to wind down then a girly spa treatment. The Empire is one of the finest spa experiences in Australia, with all natural and local products and a beautiful atmosphere. Be sure to book ahead for a sure-fire fab time.
Finally, no girly weekend in complete without liquid heaven – wine. Margaret River region has 215 of the finest wineries in the world, so you know that the vines are incredible. The WA wine region is different than any other in the world, with a cellar door experience unmatched to any I have ever encountered, including that of Argentina and Chile! My favourites include Swings and Roundabouts, Black Brewery and Vasse Felix.
