If you are heading off on a short break this Autumn, you will need to be pretty savvy about what to pack. With most short trips requiring hand luggage only, it can be tough getting your bags (and outfits) sorted under 10kg!
This year’s autumn must-haves
You can’t get far without something to pack in! After a lot of short trips, it has become more and more important to me that my hand luggage fits everything but also isn’t too bulky.
I use this American Tourister, 4 wheeler, which is also approved for those frustrating Ryanair flight restrictions ($120.00).
This season is all about the pastels and denim. It is essential to get yourself an amazing pair of blue jeans – they go with everything. For light packers, I honestly can’t go past the cheapies like H&M or Topshop that have a great stretch to them, and are not too thick. These are easy to roll and chuck in your luggage. Depending on your own style, you may also opt to bring along a pair of black stretch skinny jeans too, or a basic black skirt. Make sure these can be mixed and matched – the more basic the better in my opinion.
Pretty muted pastels are a necessity this year, I love a light coloured knitted jumper, flowy button up, loose tee’s (in black, white and navy) and a high knecked, ribbed vest.
To throw over, a denim jacket will never stray, or a light trench such as the one above.
Stay away from anything over-patterned, as with a short trip you need to be able to re-purpose all of your items.
– 4 tees/singlets in basic colours
– 1 pastel knit
– 1 denim jacket or light trench in natural colours
– 2 pairs of jeans (black and blue) with good stretch and comfort
– 1 light button up
– 1 ‘nice’ going out top, such as a ribbed turtle neck or silky blouse
My latest obsession are these wellington rain boots from Australian brand, Merry People. They are lightweight, come in a bunch of fun colours and SUPER comfortable. It is nice to change it up from the trusty but rusty converse, but bring along both in case!
My favourite navy blue wellies are only $99.95 AUD.
Make sure you wear your heaviest items, it saves a lot of space. Another great tip is to roll your shirts or undies inside any boots, it will help you fit more in.
– cute wellington boots like these
– your walking shoes, such as converse
– optionally: heeled boots if you plan on heading out
Autumn is about subtlety and comfort, so there is no need to be overbearing in jewellery. A stunning pastel watch, like this one from Elie Beumont is perfect for the season, as it goes with everything, can be dressed up or down, and worn day to night.
Match this with a cute clutch or off the shoulder bag, rose gold rings and small studded earrings. The key is to make it all about the beautiful watch!
My Elie Beaumont watch is the Kew – Cream Nappa Leather and is only £49.00.
