An Aussie Christmas- What to do in Each State

Tis the Season to be jolly- Fa la la la laaaa – la la la la. I LOVE CHRISTMAS!

It is that time of the year again, when I start regretting moving away from sunny Australia, with the warm and sandy beaches ripe for the picking. Although not very ‘typically’ Christmassy, there is a certain festive spirit down under during December. No, we do not get the stereotypical white Christmas, but we make the most of what we do have – the great outdoors! I figured what better way to get into to silly season this year than with these Chrissie Day idea’s!

There is nothing quite like a white Christmas – on the beach that is! Perth beaches are swarmed with happy families, new toys and people of all ages (and sizes) so put on your budgie smugglers and head to one of my top 4… Cottesloe, Scarborough, Yallingup or Trigg!

The land of the theme parks- Gold Coast is the ultimate place to liven your Christmas spirit. Head to Movie World, Sea World, Wet n Wild and Dream World for some epic Christmassy rides, parades and a whole lot of action.

Byron Bay is where you should be. Bondi is way too crowded and won’t be enjoyable, but this place is mesmerizing. Tiny little cafés, cool tunes and the clear waters- ahhhh Byron Bay- I love you.

There’s not much point heading this far north, unless you are prepared to get into the Aussie Spirit. Alice Springs is probably Australia’s most iconic outback spot- with Uluru (Ayers Rock) being the epitome of any travellers Oz trip. Go off on a camel ride and enjoy desert living. Alice Springs is a quaint, homely style Christmas, with the flies and pies to boot!

The Barossa Valley is vibrant and beautiful- head on a wine tour and enjoy some drinks and of course- a nice Christmas Dinner. Make sure you book yourself into your favourite winery- places run out pretty fast and can get pricey!

Most places are closed over Christmas, so set yourself up in some luxe accommodation, rent a car and head through the Cradle Mountains and enjoy the wilderness – just make sure you pack a big Christmas Lunch!

For such a small territory- our capitol has the festive season down packed. Canberra is a maze of lights, festivals and market stalls as the city attempts to fill the sky with LED’s. Book yourself into a city center restaurant, walk the streets and take in the Christmas spirit at the market!

Melbourne is home to Australia’s art and culture scene, with some of the funkiest and coolest places to see. Christmas time is no different, but I suggest making your way to the Melbourne Zoo for something a little random and fun- pack a picnic and join in the festivities with some furry friends. Who doesn’t like seeing animals open presents?!
